“EL VÉRTIGO Y LA SABIDURÍA DE VITERI EN SUS DIBUJOS”
There is trouble. In those paintings there is trouble. Ideas, visions, experiences, sensations that were dictated by a restless intelligence, anguished, dissatisfied, a hand that, with old craft and sharp sensitivity, picked them up immediately and took them, with a brush inked black, to the paper White.
So, without more.
That is the surprising thing: that a whole life is synthesized by a stroke, by a nervous line, by a spot placed with a chance that is not chance: it is tireless work, it is encounter and it is passion.
It is, in short: Viteri
The Viteri who at the time transgressed the figure and then return to it in the nude and eroticism. The Viteri of the abstract and the stain that came to the collage and its rag dolls. And the spaces. The Viteri of the symbols. And the Viteri of obsessions for the popular, for the mestizo. Therefore, in the exhibition that is open in Art Forum, there is nothing free. There is, yes, a lot of spontaneity. A lot. Of that spontaneity loaded with wisdom that allows, in a brush, to synthesize a long trajectory. And suggest. And, imagining, invite to imagine.
The sample is a surprise. A surprise that, for the viewer, is certainly the same as it was for the author when, in front of the paper, he saw the result of that idea in black and white that, suddenly, in an instant, he only sensed and that, from the more remote corner of the subconscious, the brain decided to dictate.
The hand was the one that took the dictation with an old calligraphy of its own, unrepeatable, impetuous.
And a thick black that, sometimes, is rooted, accentuated, characterized by sepia.
Everything is like a need to return to the essence, with haste. To the essence of the form, with haste. To the essence of the drawing, in a hurry. To the essence of risk, with haste.
Viteri was. He played alone in his workshop.
And now it is playing in each spectator who is going to look at his sample and sees there there is a very slow, careful and long-constructed speed.
